چکیده

There are widely used analysis techniques for stochastic Petri nets with phase type (PH) distributed firing times. These techniques are based on the generation of an expanded Markov chain that describes the behaviour of the marking process and additionally the phase processes of the involved PH distributions. In this paper we investigate the use of a similar approach when the firing time distribution does not allow a stochastic interpretation. We show that the same expansion based technique is applicable in case of matrix exponentially (ME) distributed firing times, but in this case the system does not allow any stochastic interpretation and the applied solution methods should not be restricted to non-negative numbers. Nevertheless, by defining an equivalence between PH and ME distributions it can be shown that marking probabilities remain the same when PH distributions are substituted by equivalent ME distributions.

Stochastic Petri Nets with Low Variation Matrix Exponentially Distributed Firing Time

Abstract: Matrix exponential (ME) distributions with low squared coefficient of variation (scv) are such that the density function becomes zero at some points in ) (0,∞ . For such distributions there is no equivalent finite dimensional PH representation, which inhibits the application of existing methodologies for the numerical analysis of stochastic Petri nets (SPNs) with this kind of ME distr...

Discrete Deterministic and Stochastic Petri Nets

Petri nets augmented with timing specifications gained a wide acceptance in the area of performance and reliability evaluation of complex systems exhibiting concurrency, synchronization, and conflicts. The state space of time-extended Petri nets is mapped onto its basic underlying stochastic process, which can be shown to be Markovian under the assumption of exponentially distributed firing tim...

Stochastic High-Level Petri Nets and Applications

A new class of stochastic Petri nets is proposed in this paper. The Stochastic High Level Petti nets [SHLPNs] are High Level Petti nets augmented with exponentially distributed firing times. The main advantage of modeling homogeneous systems using SHLPNs is that the resulting models are simpler, more intuitive and have a smaller number of states as our examples show.

TimeNET-a toolkit for evaluating non-Markovian stochastic Petri nets

This paper describes TimeNET (Timed Net Evaluation Tool), a software package for the modeling and evaluation of stochastic Petri nets with non-exponentially distributed firing times. TimeNET has been developed at the Technische Universität Berlin in several research projects. A graphical user interface is provided for the model specification and several specialized analysis and simulation compo...

M–timed Petri Nets, Priorities, Preemptions, and Performance Evaluation of Systems

In M–timed Petri nets, firing times are exponentially distributed random variables associated with transitions of a net. Several classes of M–timed Petri nets are discussed in this paper to show increasing “modelling power” of different nets. Conflict–free nets can model M and Ek–type queueing systems. Free—choice nets can also represent Hk–type systems. Systems with several classes of users an...
